Rockabilly show brings rollicking good times

on Friday, August 26, 2016

RSL Care Talbarra has celebrated Queensland Senior’s Week with a rocking-good Rockabilly themed party complete with music, fashion and fun.

The residents of the aged care site were transported back to the 1950’s with a beautifully decorated hall and DJ playing favourite tunes from Elvis, Johnny Cash and Buddy Holly.

Staff encouraged residents to get up and have a dance while classic American food was served including creaming soda spiders and delicious hotdogs.

Talbarra Diversional Therapist  Angie Corrigan loves the classic 1950’s style and has bought her love to life with this party.

“The staff have gone to an amazing effort, dressing up in classic pin-up costumes with full skirts, red lips and big cherry earrings,” she said.

“Rockabilly is a throwback to the 1950s, and all about big hair, lots of make-up and a classic rock look.”

“The residents really appreciate the effort we have gone to, making this day special for them and doing something a little bit different.”

Alan and Pat Gibson enjoyed the opportunity to have a dance and reminisce about times past.

“This is a wonderful event, we don’t usually have the opportunity to dance anymore and this has been so much fun,” Alan said.

Queensland Seniors Week aims to improve community attitudes towards older people and ageing while helping involve older people in their communities and enhancing connections and inter-generational relationships.
