A Green and Gold Send Off for RSL Care RN Casey Dumont

on Wednesday, May 4, 2016

RSL Care Galleon Gardens have farewelled Registered Nurse Casey Dumont (temporarily), as she has been selected to play soccer for our national Matilda’s team in the 2016 Rio de Janerio Olympic Games in August.

The staff and residents of Galleon Gardens were delighted when they heard the news that one of their team had made the Australian team for the summer Olympics.

The whole residential aged care site showed their support for Casey by dressing in green and gold in a festive party to farewell the beloved nurse who is off to Sydney to train in the lead up to the Games.

One resident, Muriel Paice was so excited upon hearing the news she knit Casey a koala mascot wearing a green and gold jumper complete with soccer ball. Casey has promised to carry it with her everywhere she goes in Rio.

The site has also been holding raffles to raise money and support Casey on her remarkable journey.

Casey has been selected for the Matilda’s team as Goal Keeper for the Games in Rio commencing in the capital city on Wednesday 3 August.

Casey making the Olympic team is all the more special as she was unfortunately ruled out of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup after suffering an injury.

Diversional Therapist Gwen Bonney has been helping raise money for Casey and also been involving the residents in the celebrations.

“The residents are so excited to watch Casey make her Olympic debut, they can’t wait to watch her play on television,” she said.

“Casey is a much loved member of the team and I am sure we are going to have a few late nights and early mornings as the games are aired in Brazil.”

RSL Care wishes Casey all the best and she will be cheered on from not only the team at Currumbin Waters, but by the whole RSL Care community!
