Wesley Mission Queensland - Bethesda Caring Centre

From its elevated position with views of the Brisbane River, Bethesda Caring Centre in Corinda has a proud history of nurturing generations of Queenslanders. 

Bought in 1959 by the Central Methodist Mission as a hospital for the aged, Bethesda is a local landmark in the Brisbane community. It has a grand and majestic past, with many notable Brisbane identities, including a Lord Mayor, calling it home in the 1800s.

The name Bethesda, adapted from the scriptures, has taken on the meaning ‘healing of the spirit.’ A fitting description for a residence that specialises in dementia and palliative care.

The main homestead is home to 61 residents, across three units, each with their own spacious sitting room and dining room, some still with original fittings and fire places.

The peaceful Orana Court is a separate safe environment for people diagnosed with dementia and offers residents easy access to a sunny outdoor courtyard overlooking the beautiful gardens. Orana Court has dedicated Leisure and Lifestyle Coordinators who offer residents a variety of research-based and innovative activities and therapies, including: brain gym, humour clowns and music and art therapy.

With shady Moreton Bay Figs, colourful jacarandas and sweeping views of the Brisbane River, Bethesda is a place of natural beauty. Residents can enjoy afternoon tea with family and friends in the large outdoor gazebo or walk along the river without having to leave the comfort and safety of the grounds.

All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, cabling for TV and phone services and some have ensuite bathrooms. Full laundry services are also available, along with the ability to cater for specialised diets.

A personal profile ensures all staff can respond to resident’s individual needs, including medical, cultural, religious and dietary. With 24-hour nursing staff on-site and regular visits from Wesley Mission Brisbane’s own allied health professionals, staff can quickly respond to individual health needs in a holistic way.

Bethesda has dedicated Leisure and Lifestyle Coordinators who offer  residents a myriad of exciting and new activities and events. These include: high tea for the ladies, men’s workshop, monthly coffee shop with relatives, computer group and entertainment.

Due to Bethesda’s long history, the home has a strong connection to the local community and continues to serve the Brisbane south community as a place of care and compassion..

Bethesda has a dedicated team of nursing and hospitality staff, chaplains and many volunteers who make it their goal to brighten the lives of residents every day.
