Brightwater The Village

150 Dundas Road, Inglewood, Western Australia, 6052

Part of Brightwater Care Group

Located in Inglewood, Brightwater The Village has been designed specifically for people living with dementia.

Your home

The Village has 53 private rooms and 10 shared rooms, that span across six individual houses. Each house has an inviting and homely feel, with its own living room, kitchen and dining room. Gardens and gazebo areas surround each of the houses, providing plenty of spaces to relax outdoors. Central to these houses is a large clubhouse and hairdressing salon.

In 2020, we renovated The Village, to give the home a brighter and more contemporary look and feel, creating a calmer and more enjoyable environment. With extra signage to assist with wayfinding, enhanced lighting and new artwork along corridors, a spruced up garden, fresh paint in palettes inspired by nature and a general declutter, the home feels welcoming and homely for residents and families.

While all of the homes have been designed with people living with dementia in mind, Araluen House has special consideration for people living with more complex symptoms of dementia.

Specialised dementia care at Araluen House

Brightwater was chosen by the Australian Government in 2019 to pilot the first ever Specialist Dementia Care Program (SDCP), to provide person-centred care for people living with dementia.

This program runs out of Araluen House at The Village for 8 residents, and provides temporary, transitional support for people with severe behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia.

The environment is designed to promote familiarity, stimulation and independence, which is vital to help reduce and stabilise severe symptoms of dementia, and allow people to move back into less intensive care environments, such as one of the other houses at The Village.

While timeframes will vary from person to person, the expected length of stay is up to 12 months.

Your room

At The Village, you have the choice of a private room with or without an ensuite, or a shared room with an ensuite. Each room has been designed with individual comfort in mind, with an adjustable electric bed with hotel quality linen, generous storage available in the built-in cupboard for clothing and personal belongings and an individually controlled reverse cycle air conditioning system. Many of the rooms have views over the courtyards and gardens.

Life at The Village

Meals at The Village are provided by our very own catering team, and the regularly changing menu provides you choice, with a variety of tasty and nutritional meals including some recognisable old favourites.

Every meal on the menu has been tested and approved by our dietitian and speech pathologists, to make sure that we cater for all diet textures, and offer meals that meet the nutritional requirements for all of our residents, including those with dysphagia and chronic disease. From fish and chips, to bangers and mash, to texture modified food that is full of flavour, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

We have our own in-house team of Brightwater allied health professionals, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, podiatrist and social workers. By having this expertise in-house, we can ensure that you receive the best possible care, as our centralised team talk to each other and can quickly identify the support you need.

The clubhouse at The Village is home to many of the complimentary activities that take place like cooking classes, exercise groups and quizzes, and run by our experienced therapy assistants. If you have a green thumb, you will enjoy taking part in our gardening group. Plus, we regularly have visiting entertainers, like the WA Opera, Perth Symphony Orchestra and dance groups.

Whether you want to get involved in our range of social activities or bask in the sunlight of our landscaped gardens, our team will always appreciate your preferences.

Five Facts About Dementia

on Wednesday, July 10, 2019

Despite how common it is, often it’s only when someone close to us is affected that we really understand what it means to be living with dementia.

15 Positive Quotes About Ageing

on Tuesday, May 14, 2019

What's not to love about a good quote? They're little snippets of bigger ideas that motivate us to move more, inspire us to give back and even make us laugh out loud. But in a world where the word 'ageing' is often paired with 'anti', quotes that put a positive spin on the completely normal process of getting older are worth their weight in gold. Brightwater Care recently shared some of their favourites.
