West Moreton makes up the entire rural area of South East Queensland. It lies east of the Darling Downs and is inland from Brisbane.
The overall population across the region is almost 110,000 over an area of 1,258.9 square kilometres.
Major towns in the region include Boonah, Esk, Gatton, Kilcoy and Laidley.
The climate is a typical Queensland sub-tropical climate, with warm wet summers and mild dry winters. A lot of towns in the region experience sub-tropical climates, such as Boonah which experiences about 89 days annually of rainfall.
Summer time temperatures reach an average maximum of the mid thirties whilst winter’s average maximum daily temperature is often in the low twenties.
The West Moreton sub region consists of the Lockyer Valley, Somerset and Scenic Rim.
