A tricentennial jubilee

In August last year, Allity Aged Care celebrated an epic 300 years of life as residents Winifred Dhyland, Irene Wade and Dorothy McQueen together became centenarians.

The three friends, born within days of each other in August 1913, just happen to be living in the same aged care residency in Willandra, New South Wales.

Beyond basics - health professional training gets real

The Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Western Australia (UWA) has made positive use of an unoccupied aged care facility by turning it into a clinical learning space for students of nursing, social work, podiatric medicine and medicine.

In 2011 the Beyond the Teaching Nursing Home project was established to provide a dedicated learning environment where students could practice activities with real people, as well as mannequins.

Making a move on dementia awareness

Dancing with the Stars choreographer Alana Patience will lead a spectacular display of colour and movement this March as seniors from UnitingCare Ageing facilities in NSW put on their dancing shoes to raise awareness for dementia.

Ms Patience has come up with a dance routine to cater to all levels of mobility, so over-55s and their friends can get their endorphins up and groove on.
