Library for Visually Impaired Goes Online

Vision Australia has released its online catalogue allowing free access to over 26,000 audio books and 300 newspapers and magazines for those with a print disability.

The catalogue is designed for people with a range of print disability and visual impairments.

“You may have a perceptual disability such as dyslexia, or if you have bad arthritis and can’t turn a page – that’s print disability. If I have MS and I can’t focus on the page, that’s a print disability… It’s a broad term, much broader than blind or having low vision” explained National Library Manager Tony Iezzi.


Rudd Announces New Minister for Mental Health and Ageing

Kevin Rudd has announced his new ministry and replaced Mark Butler with Jacinta Collins as Minister for Mental Health and Ageing.

The announcement comes with a new ministry line up which includes Tanya Plibersek for Health and Medical Research and Jenny Macklin for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and Disability Reform.


CEO Spends Night on Cardboard and Concrete

CEO of aged care provider TLC Aged Care Ingrid Williams spent the longest night of the year with a sleeping bag, a slim piece of cardboard and nothing but a concrete floor to sleep on.

Ms Williams participated in the annual CEO Sleepout run by St Vincent de Paul to raise money and awareness for the plight of homeless people. The sleepout encourages CEOs and business leaders in the community to sleep for a night as a homeless person does in their area. Ms Williams spoke to the Aged Care Blog about her experience.


Aged Care Provider Honours Local Member

The Whiddon Group Narrabri has been renamed The Whiddon Group Narrabri – Robert Young, in honour of the local community member as a recognition of this volunteer work.

“The Whiddon Group Narrabri has been renamed ‘The Whiddon Group Narrabri- Robert Young,’ in recognition of the voluntary service and support Mr Young has given to the organisation over the past 30 years,” said Director Care Services, Maree Taylor.
