Resthaven Marion Residents Supporting Their Neighbours

A new initiative is underway at Resthaven Marion, with helpers from the resident community supporting their fellow residents to enjoy lifestyle activities.

Lifestyle Coordinator, Sharon Betty, says, "The project is proving to be very well received, with many residents putting up their hands up to support their “neighbours” in a variety of ways."

"Several residents are reading aloud to sight-impaired residents, so that they, too, can appreciate the joy of reading again."

"A number of residents are serving in our site shop, which is usually staffed by volunteers, who are unable to attend the home during this time."

"The residents’ lively marketing of the shop merchandise has caused an increase in customer numbers."

"This is great news, as all proceeds from the shop go towards the lifestyle program."

"Taking ownership of services provided not only gives residents a sense of purpose and fulfilment, it also links them with careers they had in their younger years."

Resthaven Marion is going from strength to strength in offering diversity of choice, driven by the enthusiasm of the resident community to share and show kindness to one other.

Resthaven residential aged care homes are located at Aberfoyle Park, Bellevue Heights, Craigmore, Leabrook, Malvern, Marion, Mitcham, Murray Bridge, Mount Gambier, Paradise, Port Elliot and Westbourne Park.
