AccessCare Client Diane Heads to Granddaughter's Wedding with Help of Support Worker

on Wednesday, February 26, 2020

A wedding is one of those occasions that stays with you, a memory that lasts forever. For some people the celebration can also be stressful, particularly if they are caring for a loved one.  This was the case for Christine, who cares for her mother Diane aged 88, a client of AccessCare. Christine’s daughter, Diane’s granddaughter, was getting married. The family was very excited but also concerned about Diane’s health at the wedding.

A client with AccessCare for almost a decade, Diane aged 88, has been supported over many years to remain living at home. She’s used a range of services including escorted shopping, personal care and volunteer transport. With multiple health conditions including osteoporosis, arthritis and a history of falls, Diane now has the support of Catherine, her Aged Care Adviser made available through her Home Care Package.

Catherine heard concerns from the family that Diane may be unable to attend the wedding due to her ill health. Catherine was able to arrange for Diane’s Support Worker Julie to attend the wedding with her to support her with whatever was needed on the day. The plan was put in place for Julie to pick up Diane, help her get ready, attend the ceremony and then take Diane home afterwards.

With all the caring arrangements sorted, Christine was able to have peace of mind knowing her mother was being well supported before, during and after the ceremony.

The wedding took place on a smoky but fine Melbourne afternoon down in St Kilda. It was a wonderful afternoon on the sunny roof deck. Diane and the family had a wonderful day and were so grateful that Julie was able to support Diane on the day, so the whole family could relax and enjoy the occasion.

If you or someone you know has been approved for a Home Care Package, please call AccessCare on 1300 819 200 to have your services organised and remain living independently in your own home.
