WA Seniors Embrace The Beth-A-Lympics

on Tuesday, August 27, 2019

Bethanie, Western Australia’s most recognised not-for-profit aged care and retirement living provider hosted the 9th annual Beth-a-lympics on Monday 19th August at Bethanie Beachside in Yanchep, Perth’s most northern Aged Care Home.

The Beth-a-lympics began in 2011 at Bethanie Beachside, but the success of the event and positive outcomes for residents prompted Bethanie to widen the scope, inviting other sites to join in. Competing against Bethanie Beachside were residents from Bethanie Gwelup, Bethanie Kingsley and Bethanie Illawong Aged Care Homes.

The event was designed to get Bethanie into the spirit and race ready for the upcoming Seniors Recreation Council of WA’s annual LiveLighter Aged Care Games which will be held in September.

The 2019 Beth-a-lympics saw over 35 Bethanie residents taking part, enjoying four different events including skittles, beanbag toss, seated hockey and seated pass ball.

Bethanie Beachside Physiotherapist Rebecca Farrell coordinated the event and says, “All sites put a lot of effort into not just practice, but pulling together their team names, banners and costumes for the big day.

“It’s certainly a highlight on the annual calender of events and this year did not disappoint. It is such a great way to keep everyone active and prepare for the LiveLighter Aged Care Games.”

Teams were training weekly for this annual competitive event – with Bethanie Gwelup being announced the overall Beth-a-lympics Champions on the day. Following the games, they all joined together for a luncheon.

Bethanie Beachside offers a continuum of care with an Aged Care Home and Retirement Village on the same site. For more information or to put your name on a waitlist for Bethanie Beachside contact 131 151.
