Creations A-Plenty in ‘The Shed’

on Wednesday, July 10, 2019

You never know what wonderful creation you might find if you look inside the Resthaven Community Respite Services ‘Shed’!

Manager, Carole Matthews, says, "Shed participants enjoy a range of interesting projects. These include making furniture and bird boxes, tinkering with electrical machinery or old engines, painting, playing cards, or simply having a chat over a game of cards."

"Mr Bob Brokenbrow (pictured) is currently building a raised garden bed, to brighten up the Shed with some colourful plantings."

"Other projects completed by clients include building a wooden wishing well, painting frames for art pieces in the SALA festival, building a sturdy potting bench, and repairing numerous children’s toys."

Carole says, "The Shed isn’t just about making. It is also about feeling good about yourself, being productive, contributing to your community, connecting with friends, and maintaining an active body and mind."

"Being part of The Shed allows participants to enjoy a safe and flexible environment, where they can find many of these things in an atmosphere of old-fashioned friendship."

"Plus, there’s no pressure; clients can just come and have a yarn and a cuppa if that is all they’re looking for."

The Shed is open every weekday afternoon from 1-4pm at Township Road Marion (adjacent to Resthaven Marion), and is open to both men and women.

The relevant My Aged Care Referral is necessary to participate in The Shed, and enquiries can be made to Karen McDougle on 8198 2060.

Resthaven’s residential and in-home care and support options are offered throughout metropolitan Adelaide, the Adelaide Hills, Murraylands, Riverland, Barossa, Fleurieu Peninsula and the Limestone Coast.
