Bethanie Recognised in Western Australia’s Excellence in Age Services Awards

The outstanding achievements of the age services industry in Western Australia were recognised at the LASA Excellence in Age Services Awards inaugural WA State Conference in Perth on Wednesday evening.

The awards promote and recognise excellence across the diverse and dynamic fields of endeavour in the age services sector and celebrate the passion and achievements of organisations, teams and individuals in the service of older Australians.

Bethanie, one of Western Australia’s most recognised not-for-profit aged care and retirement living providers were deserved winners of the ‘Team Award,’ recognising the achievements of the Bethanie Nurse Leaders Project Team.

The team award recognised a team, working within the age services sector that created an environment that encourages workplace diversity, positive workplace culture and increased staff wellbeing.

During 2018, the multi-departmental Bethanie Nurse Leaders Team developed and delivered the Bethanie Nurse Leader Programme, the first of its kind in WA, to a cohort of nominated nurses from Bethanie residential aged care homes.

It focused specifically on a key capability set essential to improving residents experience and clinical practice in aged care and used a unique learning design structure that combined face-to-face seminars with workplace projects, reflective practice and online learning.

As an outcome of the Bethanie Nurse Leader’s Programme, nurses developed a plan for a customer-centred innovation at their residential aged care home. The innovations were aimed at improving the experience of residents and encourage the provision of the best possible care.

Each of the state winners will progress to the national awards to be presented at LASA’s National Congress on 27-29 October.
