Delivering Aged Care Services Via Television

on Monday, April 29, 2019

Aged care provider Uniting AgeWell recently teamed up with Channel 31 for the new series of Move It Or Lose It, as part of its commitment to enabling all people to age well.

The popular community television program aims to support older people to live well at home through daily exercise programs. Uniting AgeWell sponsored the new series and produced four episodes, featuring real clients, filmed at its Noble Park AgeWell Centre.

The episodes focussed on four themes:

  • MoveWell Everyday (using every day activities at home as an opportunity to improve strength and flexibility)
  • Strong Bones (focus on weight bearing impact exercises to promote healthy bone density)
  • Find Your Balance (focus on muscle strengthening, flexibility and reaction time to prevent falls)
  • Bollywood (move and groove as you exercise)

Regional Manager AgeWell Centres Melbourne, Amanda Mehegan said producing four unique Move It Or Lose It episodes enabled Uniting AgeWell to showcase the diverse range of services offered at its AgeWell Centres.

“Our Allied Health Centres are welcoming spaces where people receive services to regain or maintain their wellbeing through goal-oriented programs tailored to each individual’s needs,” she said.

“We offer a broad range of services, including allied health therapies such as physiotherapy, podiatry and massage, exercise groups including Tai Chi, yoga, stretch classes and pilates, as well as seniorspecific gyms and social support.”

Three centres – Forest Hill, Noble Park and Oakleigh – have state-of-the-art exercise equipment that uses air resistance technology to provide targeted exercises, all programmed to the individual using a smart-card system.

Uniting AgeWell also offers activity groups and outings at their AgeWell Centres across Melbourne, including specialist groups for people with particular conditions including dementia and Parkinson’s disease.

People can also receive social support through their Home Care Package, such as an outing or companionship at home. Watch the latest episodes of Move It Or Lose It Australia on Channel 31 at 8.30am on weekdays or on YouTube.
