Balmoral Beach Day for Arcare Glenhaven Residents

on Thursday, January 17, 2019

Soft sand and sea breeze brought back memories for Arcare Glenhaven residents who made a special trip to Balmoral Beach. No matter your age, nothing beats fish and chips by the beach on a sunny day in Sydney.

The big day began with a morning tea at Sydney Harbour National Park, admiring a prime view of Bradley’s Head, the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

Arriving at the beach was quite emotional for resident Betty, as it was the first time she had seen water since moving from the coast to Glenhaven.

Betty explained that her tears were from a mix of emotions; both missing home and being thankful to the staff for bringing her to such a beautiful place.

Everyone found a spot by the beach to relax and enjoy fresh fish and chips.

And it wouldn’t be a typical beach trip without the seagulls hunting for chips!

Lifestyle team Chloe and Jeanette spent a good while protecting the residents from seagulls hovering above their heads as everyone ate their lunch.

The residents thought it was hilarious; although it was quite exhausting for the team.

The ladies also thought it was funny to check out the old men sun baking on the beach.

‘I’ve got my sunglasses on so they can’t see me staring,’ said Betty.

Elaine was instead observing the drastic increase in development in the area.

Resident Elaine use to live in the area and began sharing stories of her weekends at Balmoral with Surf Lifesaving.

It was a beautiful place for residents to reminisce about their times at the beach as children.

Stopping for ice cream on the way home also had residents feeling like kids; being spoiled by their parents after a nice day out!

The pure joy residents felt on the day made the long drive and lurking seagulls well worth it.
