Arcare Craigieburn Residents Embrace Spanish Language Classes

on Monday, January 21, 2019

A group of residents from Arcare Craigieburn have been learning Spanish together over the past six months. The Spanish-speaking residents in the community, who are from Spain, Argentina and Chile, have been working with Spanish teacher Danielle as assistant language teachers.

Six English-speaking residents have been learning Spanish during these classes. The activity was developed to encourage friendships between English-speaking residents and residents from CALD backgrounds.

Maria stated in Spanish, “I am very happy to have so many friends who I can talk to and it makes me happy that they are learning Spanish. I really enjoy helping the other students with pronunciation and spelling.”

As a student, Joan says, “I enjoy learning Spanish as it helps to exercise my mind and keep it active. It’s a challenge learning a new language and it has been a great help having others like Maria to help us.”

The members of the Spanish language group are excited to introduce students from Craigieburn Secondary College who are also learning Spanish and will join the group during some of their study sessions when the new school term begins.

The lifestyle calendar at Arcare Craigieburn has been specifically put together to support clients’ interests and hobbies.

In particular, the boxing and ballet groups have been huge successes.
