Hats Off To Braemar CEO for Becoming Bethanie Bake Off Finalist

on Friday, November 30, 2018

Braemar Presbyterian Care’s Chief Executive, Wayne Belcher OAM, impressed judges with his crêpe making prowess at the 2018 Big Bethanie Bake Off earlier this month.

Mr Belcher, who was crowned a finalist, said although the event was fun, it had a serious message about encouraging people to come together over good, nutritious freshly cooked food, which was something that the not-for-profit aged care home took very seriously.

“We undertake all of our cooking on-site thorough our catering partner Cater Care, as we believe delicious fresh food is critical for the health and well-being of all people,” he explains.

“Eating together is a wonderful way to socialise, strengthen cohesive social bonds, get to know each other and enjoy conversation, all of which we encourage at Braemar.

“The Bake Off was great fun and I very much enjoyed getting involved and cooking with Pauline – one of our Braemar residents. The crêpes we made have special significance for my family, and I think they were a hit with everyone who tried them.”

Mr Belcher, who was CEO of Bethanie for almost two decades, also made home-made crêpes over winter for both staff and residents at Braemar, as an incentive for them to have their influenza vaccine in order to protect residents and everyone in the Braemar community against flu.

“Rewarding those who had the flu vaccine by making my home-made crêpes was a great success over winter. We had record numbers of staff opting to be vaccinated, so it’s a recipe for success that I’m sure will be repeated,” Mr Belcher adds.
