Braemar CEO Dons Chef Hat as Big Bethanie Bake Off Finalist

on Thursday, October 25, 2018

Braemar Presbyterian Care’s Chief Executive, Wayne Belcher OAM, has become a finalist in the 2018 Big Bethanie Bake Off, after impressing judges with his crêpe making prowess.

Mr Belcher explains his flair for making crêpes originated several years ago, when he was a pastor at Lake Joondalup Baptist Church, which provided meals and respite for the local police and other supporting emergency services when major music events were held locally.

“Our church supported these hard working people who were responsible for providing safety and wellbeing services at these events,” he explains.

“As well as providing a much needed sausage sizzle, I also helped to make around 500 crêpes for the staff. This has become something I now do reasonably often for my own family.

“This year, we also decided to make the home-made crêpes for both staff and residents at Braemar, as an incentive for them to have their influenza vaccine, in order to protect residents and everyone in the Braemar community against flu, and it was a great success.”

Mr Belcher, who was CEO of Bethanie for almost two decades, says it is exciting, and also lots of fun, to make it through as a finalist to the 2018 Big Bethanie Bake Off and is looking forward to going head to head with Bethanie finalists.

“I have loved making crêpes for my family, as well as the Braemar team. Being acknowledged as a finalist in the 2018 Big Bethanie Bake Off really is the icing on the cake… or should I say the maple syrup on the crêpe!”

Mr Belcher will be joined on stage by Braemar resident Pauline Farrell and facility manager Lyn Cattell.
