Baking Up a Storm Puts the Fun into Fundraising for RSPCA Cupcake Day

on Monday, August 13, 2018

Staff and residents at Mercy Health’s Mercy Place Mont Clare will be fighting animal cruelty with cupcakes during August, as they take part in the sweetest fundraiser of the year  — Cupcake Day for the RSPCA.

The self-confessed animal lovers will be rolling up their sleeves to ice, sell, share and eat dozens of cupcakes on 20 August, in a bid to raise funds to help the thousands of sick, injured and neglected animals that RSPCA WA deals with each year.

Mercy Place Mont Clare Acting Service Manager, Me Nu Nu Tun, says both staff and seniors at the home were huge animal lovers who, when they read about the fun fundraiser, wanted to help make a difference.

“When our staff and residents heard about Cupcake Day, they jumped at the opportunity to combine a morning tea for friends and family while helping to raise much-needed funds for the RSPCA," Ms Tun said.

“Even though animal cruelty is something we all find hard to think about, the majority of our residents have owned animals in their younger years and so have been keen to help raise money for animal welfare services across the state.

“Like most people, our care staff and residents also love eating cupcakes, and the fact that by doing so we can raise money for the RSPCA is just the icing on the cake.”

Held nationally on Monday 20 August — but also throughout the month of August — Cupcake Day aims to raise vital funds for RSPCA WA, which relies on community fundraising activities for the majority of its funding.
