Opal Aged Care’s State-of-the-Art Facility Opens in Bankstown

on Thursday, June 14, 2018

Opal Aged Care has officially opened its newest state-of-the-art facility in Bankstown – a $48 million investment that will provide much needed specialist aged care support for the expanding Canterbury–Bankstown community.

Opal Acting Managing Director, Sean Bilton, said the 155-bed home combines clinical excellence with an understanding of what’s most important to the culturally diverse community of Canterbury-Bankstown.
“We’re thrilled to be opening Opal Bankstown today, delivering specialist aged care services to the expanding region, which is set to grow by up to 140,000 people over the next 20 years.

“We will be replicating our successful clinical excellence program from existing homes at Opal Bankstown, ensuring that residents can access the best care at every stage of their aged care journey. We are excited to bring some of our best staff from other Opal homes in the region across to Bankstown to deliver this care for our newest residents.

“Alongside our commitment to the highest standards of care, our new home will also reflect what the local community wants more broadly from their aged care experience. We have been listening, and we will continue to seek the community’s feedback to help shape the menu, lifestyle services and spiritual support at Opal Bankstown,” Mr Bilton said.

The Western Sydney region is one of particular importance to Opal, with the opening of Opal Bankstown making up part of a planned $300 million total investment in the region – a welcome commitment according to Hon Jason Clare MP, Member for Blaxland.

“With Australia’s ageing population, there is an ongoing need for accessible, affordable, high quality care and this is particularly true in South West Sydney. The opening of Opal Bankstown today will help to provide our ageing community the level of care, choice and respect they want and deserve,” Hon Jason Clare said.

Opal Bankstown will also provide specialist dementia care to the community. With 1,200 people affected by dementia currently living in Bankstown, and this number expected to grow to 2,700 people by 20502, Opal recognises the growing need for such care.

“Our new home in Bankstown boasts two memory support wings with specially designed memory gardens. In addition, our ongoing educational partnership with Dementia Australia ensures all our staff are educated in best-practice dementia care,” Mr Bilton said.

Opal Bankstown offers a range of beautiful accommodation options at affordable prices and will increase the number of beds Opal provides the region to almost 600. Additionally, residents will have access to a thriving medical precinct including Bankstown Hospital.

Community Open Day

Opal invites the Canterbury–Bankstown community to come and visit Opal Bankstown on its community open day on 16 June from 10am – 2pm, and welcomes the community’s feedback into the services that Opal Bankstown will provide its residents.
