Cartoons Help Share Friendship Story

on Thursday, April 5, 2018

Care and Friendship has been at the heart of Braemar Presbyterian Care since it was founded in 1952. The long-established aged care provider adopted a relationship centred care approach early in its existence, with a focus on building the bonds that exist between residents, their families and staff.

Braemar believes that this approach, which acknowledges the importance of human connections, provides numerous benefits for the residents in an aged care environment.

“A Care and Friendship focus blends two of the most essential elements of an aged care experience. All Australian’s deserve access to high quality care as they age and many providers are striving to ensure quality care is on offer. But what we are seeing is that friendships; and quality human relationships; add a level of emotional support to the elderly, their loved ones and aged care workers.” said Wayne Belcher (OAM), Chief Executive of Braemar.

“Aged care is a very human industry. Residents often feel vulnerable and nervous when commencing their aged care journey. Through quality relationships and a genuine friendship focus we see these stresses greatly reduce as our team come together to celebrate the connections they form with those in their care.”

To help showcase the Care and Friendship experience, Braemar has partnered with noted Australian cartoonist Jason Chatfield (illustrator of the ever-young Ginger Meggs) to produce a series of illustrations throughout 2018. These illustrations will share a snapshot of the Care and Friendship approach at Braemar in a fun and engaging way.

To be shared on Braemar’s website and across print media, the illustrations will showcase Braemar’s care and friendship experience. This sees residents participate in a number of activities from pet therapy to enrichment lectures; day trips to festive celebrations all in a friendly and caring environment.
