Bethanie Celebrates Purple Week in Their Commitment to Improving Wellbeing

on Thursday, March 1, 2018

Bethanie, one of Western Australia’s leading not-for-profit aged care and retirement living providers recently ‘went purple’ for thier annual Purple Week celebrations which took place from 19 - 26 February 2018.

Purple week commenced a number of years ago as Bethanie’s way of celebrating and recognising its commitment to spiritual whole person care and the role that all staff have in providing quality spiritual care, in particular the involvement of the Chaplaincy team within Bethanie.

Bethanie Coordinator of Chaplains, David Van Leen said, “Purple Week gives us the chance to reflect on our commitment to providing spiritual care to all of our clients, and it’s a great opportunity to bring clients together.

“Eacxh year we aim to inspire respect and kindness throughout the community and during Purple Week we encourage greater compassion and respect and ultimately work to improve everyone’s wellbeing.”

Throughout Purple Week, activities and events at Bethanie Sites across WA took place, most with a dominant Purple Theme. Events included a Purple Breakfast BBQ, a number of Purple Morning and Afternoon Teas, quizzes about all things Purple and Purple Cake Decorating sessions.

Purple decorations and purple outfits were on show throughout a number of the Bethanie sites, bringing together residents and staff and showing residents that there is a life to live at Bethanie.

Bethanie CEO Chris How adds, “Chaplaincy is such a valuable part of Bethanie. Our Chaplains provide ongoing support and guidance to our clients, residents, families, staff and volunteers on their spiritual journeys.

“Purple Week allows Bethanie to thank our wonderful staff and volunteers for delivering spiritual care and the benefits the service provides to our residents and clients.”

Bethanie introduced Purple Week in 2011. Today, Bethanie employ five full-time, twelve parttime and several relief Chaplains whose services are provided complimentary to their clients.

David adds, “Purple has long been associated with Spirituality and used to identify those who provide Spiritual Care; that is why we use purple as the theme of the week where we focus on Spirituality and the Spiritual Care we provide at Bethanie.”
