Mercy Place Lathlain Couple Celebrate Anniversary on Valentines Day

on Wednesday, February 14, 2018

After almost 70 years of marriage, the love lives on for Mercy Place Lathlain residents Frank and Norma Platell.

The couple will celebrate 69 years of marriage on Valentine’s Day, with Mr Platell admitting that he feels his wife is just as beautiful as the day he married her, and demonstrating his love with a single red rose and a valentine’s card which he says he will sign as a ‘anonymous lover’.

Choosing February 11, 1949 to marry at St Patrick’s Church in Mount Lawley, Frank and Norma chose a V12 Lincoln as their wedding car, “the ultimate Ford at the time,” reminisces Mr Platell.

“I knew I was marrying a beautiful person, but I didn’t realise just how beautiful she was until I saw her enter the church on her dad’s arm,” adds Mr Platell, who was a journalist with the West Australian newspaper for many years.

“We’ve had the most marvellous time together, you can easily say that you love someone but you need to prove it by showing it every day in your actions; that’s what we both did and as a result we had real harmony in our family home.”

Mercy Health Lathlain Service Manager, Surabh Nair, says couples like Frank and Norma Platell epitomise what Valentine’s Day is all about; having true commitment and respect for each other, as well as love.

“Norma and Frank’s partnership is true testament to a long and happy marriage,” he said. “It will be wonderful to see them celebrate Valentine’s Day as they certainly still love each other very much.”
