Betty Forder Turns 100

on Thursday, February 1, 2018

The irrepressible Betty Forder has turned 100, and celebrated her special day surrounded by family and friends. Betty is a resident of TLC Aged Care Sunlight residential aged care home, located in Whittlesea, and is a much-loved member of the community.

Betty was born in Moonee Ponds in 1918. She is a twin, and one of five children. As a child, Betty lived in Kilmore and Seymour with her family. At 14 years of age, she moved to Melbourne to work as a folder in a hosiery factory.

In 1938, Betty married her husband, William Forder, who was a textile operator. Their family home was in Coburg, and Betty gave up work when she had their children, three boys, Don, Barry and Alan. In 1963, Betty and her family moved to Pascoe Vale South.

Betty enjoyed caravanning holidays with her family and friends at St Leonards. She and William loved gardening and always had a vegetable garden. Betty and William were also active members of the Pascoe Vale Cricket and Football Club where William was the cricket club captain and Betty loved dancing. Betty also loved her pet dog, a whippet named Bonny.

Betty was married for 69 years until William passed away in 2007. After the passing of William, and prior to becoming a resident of Sunlight, Betty lived in Broadford with her son, Alan, and daughterin-law, Val.
