107th Birthday Celebration For Salter Point Senior

on Tuesday, February 27, 2018

Last week, Baptistcare Gracewood resident Effie Hamilton received her seventh letter from Queen Elizabeth II marking her 107th birthday.

But the real highlight of this amazing anniversary for Effie was sharing a high tea celebration with friends and family at Baptistcare Gracewood Residential Care in Salter Point.

The former dressmaker, ballroom dancer and bowling enthusiast, who was born in Kalgoorlie, credits her longevity to a healthy lifestyle, lots of dancing and the love of family – for Effie that now includes 11 grandchildren, 20 plus great grandchildren and more than 20 great great grandchildren.

While Effie may have been the oldest at the party, she shared the celebration with a number of other residents including her friend Pam Beard who celebrated her 102nd birthday, Peggy Morrissey who will be 101 in April and Nancy Ashton who is 95.

What is the secret to a long and healthy life?

These inspirational seniors all agree that keeping busy, walking, eating healthy food, and not smoking, has been the key to their longevity.

Having so many residents living such long and meaningful lives is testimony to the Baptistcare philosophy of keeping people motivated, interested in life and connected to their families and communities.

According to Lifestyle Coordinator, Cecily Broomhall, Baptistcare Gracewood residents like to be occupied and are always eager for a chat.

“The staff love to hear their stories and their recollections,” she said.

“Our team members love going the extra mile on all occasions and take time to listen to the thoughts of the people they care for and to help them meet their goals.”

Baptistcare Gracewood is a well-appointed, modern aged care facility located in Salter Point offering a high standard of care for all residents.
