Community Positive as Braemar Looks To Revitalise In Bicton

The community open day hosted in late 2017 by Braemar Presbyterian Care at its property in Bicton has shown overwhelming support for the not-for-profit aged care provider’s plans for the site.

More than 150 members of the community attended the open day, which was planned to inform locals about the organisation’s plans to revitalise the site, as well as offer an opportunity for residents in the community to ask questions about the plans being crafted.

A survey conducted on the day showed that, on average, participants agreed that there was a need for more aged care services in the Bicton area and strongly agreed that if they or a member of their family required aged care services, they would prefer to stay in their local area.

Wayne Belcher (OAM), Chief Executive of Braemar, said it was heartening to see that participants indicated strong support for the proposal, with the vast majority strongly agreeing that the proposed redevelopment would provide additional aged care services and accommodation to the growing number of ageing residents in the community.

“We were delighted to gain the feedback that 100% of respondents to the survey agreed that the proposed redevelopment of our Bicton facility would provide additional aged care services and accommodation to the growing number of ageing residents in the local community,” he said.

“On top of that, there was also unanimous agreement from participants that they supported the redevelopment of the facility, with the most common response being ‘Strongly Agree’.”

This survey also uncovered that:

• 96.4% of participants agreed that there was a need for more residential aged care services and accommodation in the Bicton area
• 92.6% of participants agreed that they would prefer to stay in the local area if they required residential aged care services in the future.
• Participants indicated some uncertainty about accessing residential aged care services locally, with 28% of participants stating they would not feel confident they could find a residential aged care service in the suburb of Bicton if required

“Our proposed revitalisation plans for our Bicton facility will deliver a high quality aged care and retirement living campus that will meet community needs for decades to come,” Mr Belcher added.

“The feedback we have received demonstrates our strong commitment to provide high-quality aged care and retirement living for the local community; our goal is to ensure our residents have high quality accommodation and facilities, allowing them to lead an enriched life while they’re in our care.”

In addition to the Bicton location, Braemar currently operates three residential care facilities in the City of Melville and East Fremantle area; providing over 200 residential places.
