Palliative Care Australia National Award Win for Resthaven

Congratulations to Resthaven Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, Peter Jenkin, who recently won the prestigious ‘Excellence in Palliative Care in an Aged Care Setting’ award at the Palliative Care Australia National Awards.

Peter plays a key role in  the provision of specialist palliative care nursing services to Resthaven customers, in both residential and community services.

The role of the Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner is innovative in itself, with Resthaven the first aged care provider in South Australia to employ a dedicated person in this role.

Since he began with Resthaven in 2011, Peter has demonstrated ongoing commitment to embedding palliative care into Resthaven’s clinical structure.

Peter actively participates in leadership and education activities in Resthaven’s workforce development education programs, has been integral in working with the senior clinical team in establishing new processes and best practice, and is a role model to staff.

Feedback from Resthaven residents, clients and family is overwhelmingly positive, with families stating that they felt supported and informed about palliative care once Peter became involved in their individual circumstance.
