Generations Join Together For Big Bethanie Bake Off

on Wednesday, September 6, 2017

Bethanie, one of Western Australia’s most well known not-for-profit aged care and retirement living providers, has officially launched the ‘Big Bethanie Bake Off’ for 2017.

Following on from the success of the past three years, which saw many entries from across the state, the Big Bethanie Bake Off returns for a fourth year continuing the aim of closing the intergenerational gap between our seniors and youngsters.

To take part, school children, Bethanie residents and Western Australian Seniors must submit their family recipes online in the hope of being selected as a finalist to compete in a live bake off at Have a Go Day on Wednesday 1 November 2017.

School-aged children will be asked to research their grandparents’ background and discover their favourite recipe. The children will then need to reproduce the dish - with the aid of a grandparent - and submit their application for a chance to win some amazing prizes.

Each submission will be judged on the creativity, nutritional value, and complexity of the recipe, along with the story behind their secret family recipe.

Winner of last year’s ‘Best Kid’ recipe and overall 2016 Bethanie Bake Off Champion, Joshua Wenz from Whitfords Catholic Primary School, said being accepted into the Bethanie Bake Off was an amazing experience because he could show what he’s learnt from watching his family cook.

“It was great to impress the judges with my families recipes that are not found in cook books, but have been passed down through the generations.

“My passion for cooking started when I was old enough to stand on a stool next to the stove with whoever was cooking at the time. I cook every day from bacon and eggs with hollandaise sauce to poached pears and custard. Thanks to Bethanie for the opportunity.”

Four Western Australian seniors will be chosen as finalists to compete against four chosen school students at the Grand Finale for a live bake off at Have a Go Day, Burswood Park, Wednesday 1 November 2017.

To enter, visit www.bigbethaniebakeoff.com and complete an online entry form. Entries close 5pm, Friday 6 October 2017.
