Calvary Health Care Invests In Rye

on Monday, July 17, 2017

With the largest and oldest population of residents in Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula Shire is preparing for the oncoming demand of residential aged care. It is expected that within the next fifteen years, over 21% of the shire’s residents will be aged 70 or over.

To accommodate the growing need, one of Australia’s largest aged care providers, Calvary Health Care, has commenced construction on a modern and contemporary aged care home in Rye.

Located a stone’s throw away from the beach and town centre, the residence will boast single rooms with private ensuites, lounge areas, a café and plenty of outdoor spaces - encouraging friends, family and the local community to visit. Catering to the care needs of 99 residents, the home will also have an area dedicated to residents with dementia.

Development Manager, Frank Michienzi, has worked to ensure that the development seamlessly fits in with the Rye area. “The home has been purposefully designed to fit in with the neighbourhood context, with rooms orientated to maximise natural light, fresh air and views overlooking the gardens” he says.

The development will generate an estimated $20 million in local investment, 185 Full-Time Equivalent construction-related jobs and 105 jobs on an ongoing basis in the aged care residence. “This expansion in Rye will generate $4.8 million in wages, a proportion of which will be supporting local businesses”, says CEO Andrew Sudholz.

“It’s important to us as an organisation that as we grow to meet Australia’s aged care needs, we continue to support other Australian businesses and the local community” he continues.
