Ita Buttrose, AO OBE, Opens New $27m Aged Care Facility At Mount Hutton

on Wednesday, July 12, 2017

A new, state-of-the-art aged care facility at Opal Hillside has been officially opened by Ita Buttrose, AO OBE, Alzheimer’s Australia Ambassador and eminent Australian.

Highly regarded for her active leadership in promoting aged care reform, Ms Buttrose noted Opal’s proactive approach in raising industry standards, particularly in dementia care.

“It's so important that we work together to help those living with dementia remain connected and engaged with their local communities, families and friends. There are currently over 1,700 people affected by dementia in the Mount Hutton area, and with this number set to grow, having access to specialist dementia care has never been more vital.”

As part of its commitment to providing expert care, Opal staff are trained through an educational partnership with Alzheimer’s Australia. The home also has two memory support wings with accessible gardens and stunning views of the surrounding area.

The new 128-bed facility, representing a $27 million dollar investment by Opal, builds on its existing campus in Mount Hutton; combining residential aged care, assisted living apartments and independent living for ageing Australians.

Speaking about Opal Hillside’s extensive range of services and luxury features, Gary Barnier, Managing Director of Opal Aged Care, noted Opal’s commitment to delivering experiences that give residents the quality of life they expect and deserve.

“Opal Hillside offers residents a new standard in aged care, providing more choice in care, services and lifestyle activities which are all tailored to the individual. This is all supported by a dedicated concierge service to help residents navigate their options and personal choices. From our luxurious interiors, to the café, hair salon and hydrotherapy spa bath; the home has been designed to support the lifestyle residents want.

“The campus represents a true ‘continuum of care’. With different living options side by side, residents have peace of mind that if their health and care needs change they can remain within their trusted community,” Mr Barnier said.

Opal has already started welcoming the first residents to the new home and once full, the campus will employ more than 200 people, supporting jobs and growth for the local and surrounding communities.
