Bookworms Love Mobile Library at Christadelphian Aged Care

on Friday, July 28, 2017

Trips to the local library are always enjoyable for those who love getting their teeth into a new book. But for those residents at Christadelphian Aged Care - Chamberlain Gardens in Wyoming who find it difficult to make the trip as they grow older there is a service that brings the books to them.

The Bookmobile is run by the local council and visits nursing homes, schools and community centres to ensure everyone has access to good literature.

Books and other materials are rotated on the Bookmobile to ensure regular circulation of titles.

The colourful van visits Chamberlain once a fortnight so residents can return books and select new ones to borrow.

Recreation Officer Sharon Mesic said the mobile library reduced social isolation and kept the residents stimulated.

"Residents also engage in conversation about the books they are reading talking to staff about the book when asked," she said.

"The library will also try to source a book at a residents request. It’s an excellent service."
