Batik Painting Workshop Comes to Regis Aged Care in Darwin

Aged care residents at Regis Tiwi in Darwin were treated to a workshop to learn the painting style of Batik from a local artist.

Created using a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth, or cloth made using this technique, the applied wax resists dyes and therefore allows the artisan to colour selectively by soaking the cloth in one colour, removing the wax with boiling water, and repeating if multiple colours are desired.

Regis aged care residents were instructed by a local artist with everyone reporting “how much they enjoyed the painting”.

The session was also great therapy for the residents helping to enhance communication, brain function and social interaction as they shared their ideas and skills in a group.
