Groundbreaking Ceremony Kicks off BlueCross Springfield Construction

The Member for Chisholm Julia Banks, and BlueCross CEO Alan Lilly recently officiated a ground-breaking ceremony for a new state-of-the-art aged care residence being built in Box Hill.

The City of Whitehorse has a growing population of older people. Currently around 12.9 percent of residents are aged 70 plus. By 2026 this age group will comprise 17.9 percent of the municipality, a net increase of 7,500 people. The aged population will continue to increase over the next decades and indications are that – without developments such as BlueCross Springfield – there will be a shortage in the number of aged care beds available to service the ageing community.

BlueCross will set a new standard of aged care amenities in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. This residence will feature large single rooms, as well as a café, cinema, beauty salon, landscaped outdoor spaces, luxurious indoor living spaces and much more – all delivered to the exceptional BlueCross standard that we are known for.

BlueCross will provide an ageing in place residence that will care for and support residents as their needs change. Also offered will be a secure memory support wing for people living with dementia.

BlueCross is committed to providing care options for the broader Melbourne community; with a focus on enriching lives through encouraging independence, dignity and choice for those in our care. BlueCross Community & Residential Services currently operates 24 aged care residences that provide support and care to more than 1800 residents, and provides community care to more than 1000 clients.

BlueCross Springfield was originally known as the Dorking Road Hostel and was opened by the Box Hill Council with support from the Lions Club of Box Hill and the Rotary Club of Box Hill In 1985.
