Victorian Aged Care Provider Named ‘Employer of Choice’ for Eleventh Year

on Friday, December 9, 2016

Victorian not-for-profit aged care provider, Benetas, has been awarded the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation (EOCGE), for the eleventh time.

The WGEA citation recognises employers with a proactive commitment to achieving gender equality in the workplace. It also helps businesses stand out in a competitive jobs market by enhancing their ability to attract and retain talented employees.

CEO, Sandra Hills, said Benetas is one of only five healthcare and social services organisations to receive the citation.

“Benetas is proud of its commitment to equality and diversity”, Ms Hills said.

“Benetas believes in supporting both genders to thrive in the workplace. We proactively pursue solutions for issues such as, caring responsibilities, gender pay gaps, and inflexible work practices.

“Our vision is to build a highly skilled, experienced and engaged workforce, which can best meet the needs of older Victorians and their families”, said Ms Hills.

Closing the gender gap is important, not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because it improves overall performance. Benetas’ Board and CEO are focused on achieving equal outcomes for men and women and drive change from the top.

“The aged care sector faces challenges in attracting and retaining aged care workers. Our commitment to gender equality, and the initiatives underpinning this commitment, will help address this concern”, said Ms Hills.

Benetas has a strong track record in delivering programs that promote diversity and inclusion. In the last year, the organisation launched a Manager Toolkit to promote flexible working arrangements, and commenced the White Ribbon workplace accreditation program.

Benetas staff have access to paid parental leave, paid superannuation during parental leave, job sharing, leadership development and mentoring programs, and flexible work hours.

Trends in this year’s EOCGE recipients include a focus on flexibility, greater support for women to progress into leadership and more sophisticated analysis of the causes of gender pay gaps.
