RSL Care Fairways Celebrates Christmas in Style

A sleigh with bells may be all the go at the North Pole, but in Bundaberg, Santa prefers the thrum of a Harley.

That’s how he arrived at the annual Community Christmas party at RSL Care Fairways, which once again opened its gates and its arms to the broader community with live music, buggy rides, jumping castle and great food.

The Christmas Party is a favourite among Bundaberg locals who look forward to the celebrations each year, and this year’s event did not disappoint. Entertainment included performances by the Bundaberg Caledonian Pipe Band, a children’s fancy dress competition, and a Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long.

By far the highlight of the night was the man himself arriving on a Harley Davidson to be greeted by a crowd of very excited children who were given special Christmas treats.

Staff from both the Residential Aged Care and Retirement Communities work incredibly hard each year to put on the special event as part of their commitment to helping residents stay active and involved, and building strong community relationships. Retirement Village Manager, Jude Riley looks forward to this event each year and understands how important it is to the residents.

“It’s a great opportunity for the families to come together and celebrate Christmas; we go to a lot of effort to ensure the families feel welcome here. There is a jumping castle, face painting and a lolly stall as well,” she said.

“Many of the residents from the village have decorated their homes for Christmas, putting up lights and decorations in their yards. We have decorated our buggy and are giving tours of the village to see the lights.”

RSL Care Fairways holds many events and activities for their residents promoting ongoing community participation. The site is home to more than 200 Bundaberg residents and has more than 140 staff and volunteers.
