RSL Care Fairview Celebrates Melbourne Cup

Residents at RSL Care Fairview have embraced the Spring Racing Season with a festive Melbourne Cup Party complete with mock races, dress ups and sweeps.

Residents were treated to a special luncheon of chicken sandwiches and champagne while the site was decorated with themed garden displays, horse shoes and flowers.

The staff members dressed up as jockeys to entertain the residents by having wooden horse races around the Special Care Unit and getting residents into the spirit of the cup.

Residential Manager Pam Scherman Carr visited all her residents before the big race and was so impressed at how much effort everyone has gone to dressing up.

“Melbourne Cup is a particular favourite event of the site as many of the residents have lived on farmland and have a special love for horses and all things country,” she said.

“They enjoy putting on their hats and fascinators and having a nice lunch while they watch race. The whole Fairview team go out of their way to make sure this is a special day for them.”
