Pixie Celebrates her 100th Birthday at Lifeview

on Monday, October 17, 2016

Olive “Pixie” Cross turns 100 tomorrow and will celebrate with family and friends with a special afternoon tea.

Pixie has lived at Lifeview Argyle Court in Chelsea for just over a year.

Born Olive Jean Wastell on the 18th of October 1916 in Western Australia, Pixie is the eighth child of ten siblings. She moved to Melbourne whilst still a baby to be brought up by her father’s sister and her husband.

In 1938 she married Ern Cross and together they shared 57 wonderful years together. They had two sons, Rob and Glen and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

When Ern fell ill, Pixie worked hard to support the family and saved to buy her very first car – she was 48 when she got her drivers licence!

In 1976, along with her sister Lill, Pixie joined the Glen Waverley Bowling Club which marked the beginning of her passion for bowls. Since then, she has won numerous flags and trophies and been champion at a number of clubs throughout the years.

After a move to the bayside 25 years ago, she joined both Somerville and Frankston Bowls Clubs with wins in the Peninsula Pennant Competition in 1995, 1998, 2001 and 2004. Bowling is still a huge part of Pixie’s life and she still attends the club every Wednesday night.

Pixie along with other Argyle Court residents will appear on Wednesday 19 October 2016 on The Project on Channel 10 in a new segment “Tea with Tommy”.
