‘Redlegs’ players make Prue’s day

on Thursday, September 8, 2016

Last month, Prue Turnbull of Resthaven Mitcham celebrated her birthday in the company of some very special guests.

A lifelong Norwood ‘Redlegs’ SANFL supporter, Prue was delighted when Manager, Mandy Hutchinson, arranged a visit from two Redlegs players to wish her a happy birthday.

Michael Chippendale (Centre Halfback) and Mark Ross (Team Manager) presented Prue with a beautiful team scarf, which Prue immediately put on.

The group chatted happily for almost an hour, with Prue impressing the players with her detailed knowledge of the club and its history.

"I’m 78 this year – also the year the Redlegs won a premiership," she says.

"That was a good year."

Mandy says, "Prue has around 20 scrapbooks in her room documenting everything ever written about the Redlegs."

"She’s also a mad keen supporter of the Crows and Geelong, and keeps scrapbooks on them too."

This particular affiliation brought on a round of good-natured banter, with Mark asking Prue what she thought of Patrick’s Dangerfield’s controversial defection from the Crows to Geelong last year.

"It’s fine with me," Prue laughs. "In fact, I think he’s going to win the Brownlow this year."

"I love football," Prue continues, "I watch all the games – anything that’s on."

"Do I have a big telly? My gosh! It’s huge!" she exclaims.

Mandy adds with a laugh, "No one is allowed to visit Prue while the footy’s on."

Mark and Michael thoroughly enjoyed speaking with Prue, with Mark saying, "We were really looking forward to meeting her."

"Our older supporters know so much history."

"We love to come and meet them, and give something back to the community who support us."

Happy Birthday, Prue!
