Designing for Excellence in Aged Care at Bulli

on Wednesday, September 14, 2016

IRT Group CEO Nieves Murray has welcomed the completion of the schematic design for a new Aged Care Centre of Excellence at Bulli.

The Centre of Excellence will include a hospital and a 60-suite IRT Care Centre, and will be built on the Bulli Hospital site by NSW Health and IRT Group, as part of a public / private partnership.

"Our vision for the Care Centre is for a creative built environment that supports a new model of care being delivered in harmony with the hospital and Bulli community," Ms Murray said.

"That model will better support customer choice and decision making — ensuring people get the right care, at the right time, by the right team and in the right place."

Ms Murray said the new model of care will enable residents to move between different areas of the Care Centre as their needs change, in contrast to the current 'Age in Place' model, where residents remain in the same room, regardless of their changing needs.

The Care Centre will include six innovation suites, specialist units for high needs care, dementia care and palliative care, and six 'step-down' suites to enable patients to be discharged from hospital, straight into the Care Centre. Conversely Care Centre residents will be able to be admitted into four 'step-up' beds if their health deteriorates and requires hospital care.

Ms Murray said the innovation suites will be used to develop the new model of care.

"Joint education, training, research and innovation with NSW Health and IRT employees is a key component of the partnership," she said.

"The Bulli Aged Care Centre of Excellence will provide the very best in aged care.

"IRT believes in this vision and we're proud to partner with NSW Health on this important project for our region.”
