Better Choice and Affordable Home Care, Decided by You

on Thursday, May 19, 2016

In an industry first, Careseekers is offering the benefits of a personalised home care matching service.

Frustrated with a lack of ease and choice in trying to find the right care support for their grandparents, a sister team established Careseekers.

Marissa Sandler, Founder and CEO commented, “Our grandparents were adamant they wanted to stay at home, but finding the right care for them was challenging. Agency care was prohibitively expensive and government care had long wait lists and was inflexible.”

Since launching in May 2015, Careseekers have been successfully connecting carers with individuals wanting in home care for loved ones or themselves through a unique on-line matching service.

“Our Concierge Service is the only in home care service of its kind in Australia. It recognises that for some people it is important to maintain a personal connection when finding a carer”, Ms Sandler added. “Essentially, Careseekers provides a shortlist of candidates based on the specific needs identified by a family or individual, we are not prescriptive in any way.”

Placing a carer in a loved one’s home is an important decision and having trust in the outcome is a key element in this process. Carers are therefore rated on punctuality, reliability and helpfulness to ensure that care seekers gain access to high quality and skilled carers.

“The carers all have detailed profiles and are rated and reviewed by others who have used their services,” Lauren Hockley, Co-Founder and CMO added.

Importantly, Careseekers does not charge any ongoing fees or charges. “This is an important point of distinction. We aim to provide a simple to purchase affordable service. Pay rates are negotiated with the carer directly, and Careseekers does not deduct any fees from Carers’ hourly rate,” said Ms Hockley.

Careseekers allows care seekers and carers to connect and create a working arrangement that suits them, whether full-time, or simply for a few hours a week. “Our service is being used to give much needed respite to children, spouses, relatives and friends. We have also received feedback from these families confirming that their loved ones feel more socially connected as the relationships with their carers grow over time,” Ms Hockley commented.

For those more tech-savy, Careseekers charges a one-off fee for access to a complete online service where individuals and their families can access a database of hundreds of qualified and experienced carers and hand-pick their own carer. To date, Careseekers have over 1000 registered carers on their database.

Ms Sandler concluded, “As the government moves towards a more consumer driven market based care system and the preference for maintaining independent living grows in tandem, increasing choice in determining the type of care being received in the home becomes paramount. Coupled with this is the need for skilled care support which is delivered in a more flexible and cost effective manner.”

Careseekers is pleased to be a participant in the National Roads and Motorists Association (NRMA) inaugural Jumpstart program.
