Triple Birthday Celebrations at Baptistcare Gracewood

on Monday, February 22, 2016

Baptistcare's Gracewood residential aged care home in Salter Point, South Perth had much to celebrate last month. Three residents turned 93, 100 and 105 within a week of each other and had a special morning tea attended by friends, family, Baptistcare staff and the WA Minister for Seniors and Volunteering, the Hon Tony Simpson MLA.

Everyone was excited and proud to celebrate these extraordinary women’s lives.

Nancy Ashton, born in 1923, was protesting that she should not have been at the head table with the other ladies as she was only 93, but the birthday morning tea was held on her actual birthday so it was indeed her very special day. Nancy was joined by Dianne and John Bailey, her relatives who were thrilled to be able to celebrate together.

Australia Day was a special day for another resident Pamela Beard as she turned 100 on 26 January 2016.

Two days later on 28 January Evelyn (Effie) Hamilton, who was born in 1911, turned a fabulous 105 and celebrated with her daughter Valerie Yates who joined in on the birthday celebrations. The year Effie was born, King George V was the reigning British monarch and the Australian Prime Minister was Andrew Fisher. Additionally, news at the time was that the administration of the Northern Territory transferred from South Australia to Commonwealth Government and the Federal Capital Territory (later ACT) was established.

Minister Tony Simpson spoke about the increase in number of people aged over 100 in Western Australia and how much he enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate these significant milestone celebrations with Baptistcare.
