Seniors Show Their Silly Side for a Serious Cause

on Wednesday, June 17, 2015

Residents at Mercy Health’s Edgewater Mercy residential home will be ‘Saying G'day the Red Nose Way' next week as they join forces to show their support for the infamous SIDS and Kids’ fundraiser on Friday 26 June.

Seniors will quite literally be seeing red as they put the fun into fundraising in their bid to support Red Nose Day, wearing red clothes as well as donning red noses as they support the annual event which raises money to save babies’ lives.

Edgewater Mercy Service Manager, Janelle McFarlane, says residents have taken it upon themselves to roll up their sleeves and also organise a fundraising morning tea to raise money for the not-for-profit organisation.

“Our residents were extremely keen to get involved in this year’s Red Nose Day fundraiser and they don’t need too much persuasion to indulge in a little silliness for a serious cause,” Ms McFarlane said.

“Apart from raising money for a very worthwhile charity, we believe it’s important to join in with community events and our residents enjoy getting involved; the philosophy of giving is definitely alive and well at Mercy Health and we’re very proud of that.”

Funds raised on Red Nose Day help save the lives of thousands of babies’ through research, education and community awareness programs. They also enable SIDS and Kids to provide bereavement support to Australian families who’ve suffered the tragic loss of a child.

Mercy Health is a Catholic community not for profit provider of care, founded by the Sisters of Mercy and grounded in a 2000 year history of caring for those in need. The organisation is a national service provider of health and aged care throughout Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory.

In Western Australia, the organisation cares for over 300 people across six residential homes, with 78 independent living units.
