Resthaven Mitcham to Undergo $13.8m Redevelopment

on Tuesday, June 9, 2015

"I am pleased to announce that plans are underway for a $13.8m redevelopment at Resthaven Mitcham," says Resthaven Chief Executive Officer, Richard Hearn.

Resthaven has been providing residential services at Mitcham for more than 50 years.

"We believe it is very important to maintain high quality options for people to be able to stay in their local community when requiring a move to residential care," says Mr Hearn.

The purpose of the proposed redevelopment is primarily to ensure that the accommodation offered is in keeping with current expectations.

The proposed upgrade will offer a much improved living environment and mostly private rooms with ensuite bathrooms, quality fittings, and individual climate control. There will be both large communal lounge areas and private spaces, for people to socialise and entertain visitors.

The majority of rooms to be demolished are shared rooms without ensuite bathrooms, in buildings that are up to 53 years old.

The site has undergone several redevelopments over the past 53 years, notably in the mid 90s and early 2000s. This proposal involves construction of a new building on the eastern side of the site, and replacement of the centrally located hall and kitchen.’

"We are currently finalising plans to lodge with the Development Assessment Commission (DAC), and expect this to occur in the next few weeks," said Mr Hearn.
