Quality On Display for Aged Care in WA

on Monday, June 1, 2015

On 20 May 2015, aged care provider Bethanie hosted its inaugural 'Quality Showcase' at the University of Western Australia Club. The showcase brought together aged care and retirement living providers, researchers and industry experts to share news of aged care excellence.

Guest speakers included Curtin University Professor Keryin Carville, who spoke of research into reducing skin tears; Dr. Andrew Stafford from Curtin University School of Pharmacy who outlined research on reducing sedative usage, and a team from UWA’s Teaching Nursing Home lead by Associate Professor Rosemary Saunders who discussed the success of the Joondanna Teaching Nursing Home.

These speakers were supplemented by Bethanie case studies on Bethanie Riversea’s innovative dementia wing, the changing face of community care and CDC as well as touch screen apps for aged care residents with language difficulties.

Those in attendance viewed how Bethanie is committed to continuous improvement and innovation, and its proud history of supporting high quality research that has lead to improved care outcomes. The event highlighted Bethanie Care Services’ innovative practices, new initiatives in the industry and a range of quality improvement initiatives.

Of the event, Bethanie CEO Chris How said, “I think it is very important for aged care providers to facilitate sharing of the research and advances in caring for the elderly. The Quality Showcase was designed to highlight excellence in this field, with the goal of improving the quality of life for the elderly not just within Bethanie but across WA.”
