Aged care staff acknowledged at masquerade ball

on Friday, November 28, 2014

The staff at one of Western Australia’s largest aged care providers dazzled their way through the first evening in November for their very own masquerade ball.

The Amana Living Awards Night and Staff Ball is an annual event that acknowledges the dedication of its 1,200 odd employees, handing out trophies for long-service and best practice across all departments.

The Rendezvous Hotel in Scarborough welcomed around 300 staff members on the night, masqueraded, frocked up and ready to kick up their heels in self-tribute.

For the first time this year, Amana Living gave out 3Rtist Awards, recognising staff members nominated by their peers for implementing 3R culture, the company’s newest strategy in workforce development.

Amana Living CEO Ray Glickman said the 3Rs help staff to focus on what matters; being the right person for the job, doing the right thing by the residents and approaching tasks the right way.

“Amana Living exists to help older people really live the second half of life,” Mr Glickman said.

“The staff play a vital role in achieving this, so it’s important we have the right approach.”

Amana Living human resources consultant Karen Partington was acknowledged with a 3Rtist award for her commitment to respecting and listening to each staff member during an operations review that introduced a new rostering system.

Ms Partington took the time to individually induct each staff member with the system, following up with consultations months after the rostering went live.

She said the 3R culture is a top-down organisational approach that she tries to exhibit through her personal connections with staff.

“I’m not a science-based HR consultant, it’s really about building relationships directly with staff,” Ms Partington said.

Having been with Amana Living for four and a half years, following a previous role in aged care, Ms Partington holds a true passion for the sector.

“With aged care, it’s always the people,” she said.

“They are genuinely compassionate and keen to make a difference.”
