Annual recognition of aged care's unsung heroes

on Thursday, August 21, 2014

The people who dedicate their time and efforts to the seniors of Western Australia are signing up to get the recognition they deserve.

Nominations are now open for the Bethanie Medallion, an honorary citation that acknowledges the unsung heroes of aged care.

The Medallion is a tradition of Western Australian not-for-profit group, Bethanie, and will celebrate its eleventh year this October when winners take to the stage at The University Club of Western Australia.

Doctors, nurses, allied health professional, care workers, volunteers, students or any individual recognised as making a difference in the aged care community can be nominated.

There are six separate categories; professional, volunteer organisation, volunteer individual, student, journalist and graduate.

Bethanie CEO Chris How said it is important to highlight the excellent work that people across the aged care industry are doing.

“We believe that by showcasing the exceptional work done by those working in aged care, both paid and volunteers, we can motivate the future workforce to get involved and promote healthy living across the aged care industry,” Mr How said.

He said while most people in aged care are passionate about caring for seniors, there are significant challenges facing care workers which can take its toll.

“The awards are open to everyone who is involved in aged care as a way to say thank you for the work they do.

“Every year since the medallion started we’ve been able to give something back to these wonderful people who dedicate their careers to helping others.”

Individuals, groups and organisations are encouraged to nominate online at www.bethanie.com.au/nomintate

Entries close 5pm WST on Monday September 8.
