A tricentennial jubilee

on Tuesday, March 11, 2014

In August last year, Allity Aged Care celebrated an epic 300 years of life as residents Winifred Dhyland, Irene Wade and Dorothy McQueen together became centenarians.

The three friends, born within days of each other in August 1913, just happen to be living in the same aged care residency in Willandra, New South Wales.

Allity Willandra manager Sindhu Menon said the birthday girls were overwhelmed with gratitude for the surprise party held in their honour.

Ms Menon said the dining room was transformed into an all-pink sanctum, with birthday cake and bubbles on ready supply.

Family, friends, and guests from the residency were all invited to share the milestone.

But the party was not the only surprise for the guests of honour.

“Winnie always said she never thought she’d make it to 100, but she did,” Ms Menon said.

Dorothry “Dot” McQueen, a former dressmaker, shared the secret behind her good cheer by imparting some wise words.

“Live your life as you would want to live it, regardless of age or anything else,” she told a Channel 10 reporter on the day.

Irene Wade had to turn in early from exhaustion, but not before expressing her sincere thanks to all the staff.

Allity is one of Australia’s newest providers of quality care for elderly people.

In all of its residential aged care facilities and independent living communities, Allity offers an extensive catalogue of services and an exceptional level of care to ensure residents have the oppurtunity to make the best of every day.
