Regis Staff Member Wins National Award

on Friday, December 13, 2013

Regis McKinley House Personal Carer Nicole Howard has won the Outstanding Carer Award at this year’s Regis Aged Care National Staff Awards.

The Outstanding Carer Award recognises an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to improving care and outcomes for residents and is open to all 5,000 of Regis’ staff members.

Regis Aged Care Victorian State Manager Phil Mackney said Ms Howard is a one of a kind and enviable employee.

“She...builds and nurtures relationships with families and visitors, which was highlighted recently when a family member commented, ‘Dad will only listen to Nicole.’ Nicole has since convinced ‘Dad’ to return to McKinley House as a volunteer after the passing of his wife, reassuring him that he is still a wanted and valued member of the McKinley community” Mr Mackney added.

The awards were held in Melbourne at a twenties inspired gala dinner to recognise the combined skills, energy and efforts of Regis Aged Care staff in ten categories.

“Nicole was nominated by a mix of management, fellow workers, residents and family members for this award” explained Mr Mackney. Feedback from the nominations included “to Nicole care giving is not just a job, it’s a vocation, and one that she does admirably with enthusiasm and love.”

Regis McKinley House supports 83 low, high and dementia care residents and employs 100 local health professionals.
