Australia’s Oldest Lady Turns 112

on Wednesday, December 11, 2013

Jane Gray is officially Australia’s oldest lady at the grand age of 112.

The Summitcare Smithfield resident turned 112 on December 1st and was born in 1901. Ms Gray has two children, seven grand-children, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

“I’ve been very lucky in my life... I married the man I love” said Ms Gray.

Ms Gray moved to Summitcare Smithfield after living independently for more than 83 years in her home in Smithfield. “I wanted to stay local and close to my family but living as long as I have lived you lose friends along the way, and as much as I love all my family I wanted to have a good old fashioned gossip” she said.

Leona Calpito, Operation Manager at SummitCare Smithfield said the team and residents were inspired by Ms Gray, who never ceases to make them laugh.

‘From the day Jane came for an initial visit earlier this year she always said a spade was a spade, and how community is very important her’ said Ms Calpito.

Ms Gray said the secret to a long life is clean living, making the most of every day and being part of a community.

Ms Gray was given the Key to the City of Fairfield this year and celebrated her birthday with family and close friends in Smithfield.

Happy Birthday Jane!
