New Aged Care Facility begins Construction in Vermont South

on Thursday, November 28, 2013

A new BlueCross aged care residence has begun construction in Vermont South, which will serve the growing ageing population in the city of Whitehorse.

The new aged care residence will be built in three stages, with the first stage due to be completed in 2015.

The Whitehorse city has a growing ageing population with 17 per cent of residents currently over 65 years of age. The aged population is set to increase over the next five years and the age group is set to have the largest proportional increase by 2021 is the 85+ age group, who are forecast to increase to 5001 persons.

There is a concern that without new aged care residence developments such as BlueCross Livingstone Gardens, there will be a deficit in the number of aged care beds available for the older community in the future.

“We are committed to providing options for healthy ageing and appropriate aged care services to the Melbourne community, with a focus on enriching lives through encouraging independence, dignity and choice for those in our care and peace of mind for their families,” said Managing Director of BlueCross David Eccless.

The residence features will include large single rooms, a theatre, cafe, landscaped outdoor spaces and luxurious indoor living spaces.

The residence will also include a secure memory support wing for people with dementia and a new day care concept which will provide support to families and residents.
