Homeless Charity Receives 700+ Food Items from Aged Care Provider

on Friday, November 29, 2013

Aged care provider The Whiddon Group has donated over 700 cans of food to Sydney-based homeless charity The Exodus Foundation. The Whiddon Group Easton Park in Glenfield ran the canned food collection to support the Foundation’s work to provide meals and food parcels to homeless and disadvantaged people in Sydney.

Whiddon’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lee-ann Irwin and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Chris Mamarelis were joined on Wednesday October 30th by Exodus founder Reverend Bill Crews, who accepted the donation of more than 700 cans on behalf of the Foundation.

“This has been a wonderful opportunity for our clients and teams to support Exodus and the work that they do. It has created a greater sense of community and we look forward to running similar events in the future” said Ms Irwin.

The food drive was a major activity of the Whiddon Group’s annual wellbeing month and the provider is currently running a community volunteering program for employees to volunteer with the Exodus Foundation.

Ms Irwin described the program as a huge success so far, and were currently looking for a local organisation to set up a second community volunteering program.

The Exodus Foundation distributes between 150-200 food parcels a week, and serves nearly 1000 free meals a day from their Loaves and Fishes restaurant in Ashfield and mobile food van in the city.
